By Bushra Hassan.

Amjad Fareed Sabri, a famous Qawwal and Sufi Singer, after ruling millions of hearts in his short life span, has been shot dead yesterday evening in Liaqatabad # 4, Karachi. A man, not just being a personality but a culture within himself, is now no more with us. Another son of motherland paid his life in this undeclared war in the country. Amjad Fareed Sabri, a soul-catching qawwal, said goodbye to his friends, relatives and fans reading his last lines in a Sehri Transmission as; “Mein Qabr Andheri Mein Ghabraun Ga Jab Tanha, Imdaad Meri Karnay Aa Jana RasoolAllah … Jab Waqt-e-Nazaa Aaey Aaqa, Didaar Ataa Karna … Ae Sabz-e-Gumbad Walay, Manzoor Dua Karna”

Amjad Fareed Sabri, yesterday, left home for participating in Ramzan Transmission when, during his way, two assailants stopped his car and opened fire. Amjad Fareeb Sabri received 4 to 6 bullets as target killers shot him multiple times on chest and head. Amjad Sabri succumbed to his deep wounds on his way to hospital. Sabri’s relative, travelling along with him, also got badly injured in the tragic incident.

Amjad Fareed Sabri was the son of renowned Qawwal Singer of 1960s, Ghulam Fareed Sabri and the nephew of qawwal icon Maqbool Sabri. Sabri group formed a formidable qawwali group in the mid 1950s and became famous soon for their spiritual, motivational and soul-stirring qawwali renditions of Arifana Kalam (Mystic Poetry).

Amjad Fareed Sabri started his career at the very early age of 9 when his father Ghulam Fareed Sabri started teaching him qawwal and sufi singing. At the age of 12, Amjad Fareed Sabri came on stage for the first time ever for qawwal singing and officially started his career. After then, he kept on going further ahead. Ghulam Fareed Sabri had 5 sons, but it was Amjad Fareed Sabri who actually inherited the qawwal and classical singing from his father. He is considered to be one who kept alive the concept of qawwali in Pakistan.

Amjad Fareed Sabri made numerous tours to USA, Canada and England where he presented his art of qawwal and promoted the culture of Pakistan as well. He was one of the South Asia’s most popular singers of Qawwali and Sufism music that has a long history of more than 700 years. Amjad Fareed Sabri gave new identification of many old qawwalis like “Bhar Do Jholi Meri Ya Muhammad” and “Tajdaar-e-Harram” which gave him new heights of success.

Amjad Fareed Sabri also got the fame from various Ramzan Transmissions where he participated actively and reached many souls through his dedicated voice. He was associated with various media channels where he used to read Hamds and Naats during various occasions. Apart from his voice and qawwal singing, Amjad Fareed Sabri’s love with Islam, Allah and Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was exceptional and he was a true believer and lover of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

Amjad Fareed Sabri’s death news spread like fire and shock the entire nation. No one could actually believe that it was Amjad Fareed Sabri who got killed by terrorists. Everybody loved him for his work and his devoted humane behaviour. The beloved ones are still in serious shock after coming to know about brutal killing of Amjad Fareed Sabri. Social Activists, Politicians, Singers, Media Persons and everyone else is mourning the death of their friend, colleague and brother. Many people literally broke down into tears while expressing themselves about this tragic incident and could not stabilize themselves to ultimately believe that the big name Amjad Fareed Sabri is now on his way to immortal world.

Bilal Qutb, a famous Religious Scholar, with whom Amjad Fareed Sabri did his last Sehr Transmission, could not hold back his tears from rolling down for hours. Famous Naat-Khuan, Faseehuddin Sohrwardi, could not speak a word regarding it due to being in a shocking position. Legendary Comedian Umar Shareef cried like a child while talking about the great loss we faced. Popular Singer Faakhir and other famous public figures as well grieved the death of Amjad Fareed Sabri with their hearts reeking of sadness and pain.

President, Prime Minister, Provincial Chief Ministers and other political figures condemned the killing of Amjad Fareed Sabri and prayed for Sabri’s high ranks in the life hereafter. MQM leaders, Dr. Farooq Sattar, Khuaja Izhar-ul-Hassan and Waseem Akhtar were out of words to express themselves and they targeted Sindh Government and its Interior Ministry badly for their bad governance in the area. In short, people belonging from different walks of life are deeply saddened about this great loss of nation. Social Media is all the way talking about the legendary qawwal singer of Pakistan. #AmjadSabriShaheed has now become the top trend on twitter where people are sharing their views and mourning the death of the great Sabri.

Questions raise that why Amjad Fareed Sabri, why Sabeen Mehmood, why a son of Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, why these innocent people have always been the target of extremists and terrorists groups, in spite of the fact that these people have no concern with politics, they do not involve themselves in state matters and they just live a life of a normal citizen of a country. Innocent citizens of Pakistan are constantly sacrificing their lives in the name of war against terrorism, personal political greed and social interests, but Federal and respective Provincial Governments look completely helpless to ensure the safety of their citizens.

Karachi Operation has been successful so far since its beginning as it has improved the law and order situation of the region. But yet high profile people and public figures are on the hit-list of terrorists who become successful often to reach their prime targets. There is no doubt that our Law Enforcement Agencies have played a key role in bringing back peace in Karachi but still I must say that there is a lot more to do for LEAs along with the government specially before quoting that they have broken the terrorists’ back. To protect the lives of at least common citizens, government and respective institutions have to wake up and take serious measures to improve law and order situation in the region, as yesterday it was Sabeen Mehmood, today it is Amjad Fareed Sabri, tomorrow it could be someone else God forbid.

Amjad Fareed Sabri’s Funeral Prayers would be offered today before Zohr Prayers where a huge gathering is expected for sure. May the Almighty ALLAH grant high ranks to Amjad Fareed Sabri in Jannat and bless his family, relatives and colleagues with patience and courage to bear this huge loss. You will always be remembered Amjad Fareed Sabri, Rest in Peace.
