Defence Day Celebrations



Defence Day celebrations were witnessed all around the country with full enthusiasm and national pride. The sacrifices of our national heroes were remembered and were given tribute by the whole nation on 51st Defence Day.

The Day dawned with 31-gun salute at the Federal Capital and 21-gun salute at provincial capitals. Various functions were organized to highlight the significance of the day, main function on the occasion was held at General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi, where Army Chief General Raheel Sharif addressed the guests inclusive of next of kin of ‘Shuhda’, besides ‘Ghazis’.

Change of guards ceremony held by Pakistan Air Force at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi while another change of guards ceremony by Punjab Rangers was held at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal in Lahore on Tuesday morning.

A special ceremony was held at Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Base Lahore to celebrate the Defence Day with zeal and fervor. A static display was arranged at PAF Base, whereas an aerial display by PAF fighter jets enthralled the visitors. Ultra light and aero-modeling aircraft display was also source of enthusiasm for the spectators. Addressing on the occasion as a chief guest, Punjab Governor Muhammad Rafique Rajwana said that 6 September was a milestone in the history of Pakistan when Pakistan Army and the whole nation courageously defended the homeland against the enemy attack.

One of the major functions of the day was an exhibition of defense equipments at Capt Col Sher Khan Shaheed Stadium, Peshawar where different types of equipments were displayed. Fly past and band performance was also appreciated by the spectators.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that in 1965 our enemy was only India and now we are facing multiple enemies and the biggest enemy of the time is Terrorism.

An exhibition was held in connection with the defense Day at Askari Park in Quetta on Tuesday. Sophisticated arms and other military hardware have been put on display for the interest of general masses. Governor Baluchistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri and Commander Southern Command, Lt General Aamir Riaz hoisted the National Flag at the Askari Park.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday, in a special message on the Defense Day, said that Pakistan Army wrote a new history of courage and bravery in 1965 war and foiled the evil designs of the enemy. Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah attended the ceremony at PAF Masroor Base Karachi.
