OIC Secretary General highlights Kashmir issue with UN Secretary General

New York: Secretary General of United Nation Ban Ki Moon received the Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani at UN headquarters on Saturday. Both Secretaries General discussed the issues of mutual concerns including humanitarian assistance and combating violent extremism.

Press release issued by OIC said Secretary General Madani highlighted “the issue of Kashmir especially with current developments”.

Earlier, on the 19th September 2016, the OIC Contact Groups on Jammu and Kashmir meeting was held at Ministerial level on the sideline of the Annual Coordination Meeting (ACM) of OIC Foreign Ministers in New York. OIC reaffirmed their full support to the right of self-determination to the people of Occupied Kashmir.

The Ministers, highlighted the human rights violations and atrocities of Indian forces on the innocent Kashmiri people and the unfolding humanitarian tragedy in the Indian Occupied Kashmir.OIC has also urged for an Organization’s Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission to monitor the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir and to submit report in next session of the Councils of meeting.
