Federal Government cuts KPK off from Punjab, says Khattak

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhua Pervez Khattak has said that Federal Government has cut KPK off from Punjab in a bid to stop PTI’s people coming from KPK to Punjab by blocking Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1). Punjab Police fired tear gas shells at thousands of PTI workers and supporters when they wanted to cross Haroonabad Bridge near Sawabi to enter Punjab from Khyber Pakhtunkhua.

Led by Chief Minister KPK Pervez Khattak, PTI workers were heading to Islamabad to join Imran Khan, Chairman PTI, in Bani Gala for Islamabad Lockdown plan. A huge contingent of Frontier Constabulary (FC) and Police made PTI workers to struggle by firing tear gas shells to disperse them and to prevent them from making their way to Islamabad from KPK. Clash between security personnel and PTI workers started right after when police fired tear gas shells towards them.

Before leaving for Islamabad, CM KPK clarified that his men are not armed and they will remain peaceful. After clashes with Police and FC, Pervez Khattak, while talking to media, criticized the government strongly and said that today, government has disconnected two provinces with each other and nothing could be worse than that. He further said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Ch. Nisar are responsible for this historic discrimination.

Pervez Khattak also said that even if police fires a bullet, then he will be the one to face it first. As far as he is alive, he will keep on moving towards Islamabad, no matter what how the king of country tries to stop them, told Khattak.

In wake of clash between security personnel and CM KPK’ convoy, Chairman PTI Imran Khan had urged people of KPK to go to Haroonabad Bridge and back CM KPK Pervez Khattak and his entourage being shelled by Punjab Police. Imran Khan said that Pervez Khattak and his entourage are being prevented from exercising their basic democratic right.

In his tweet, Imran Khan said that an elected CM KPK in under attack and Federal & Punjab Governments have violated the constitution shamelessly. Despite shelling by Punjab Police, CM PKP and his motorcade remained peaceful, didn’t respond through violence and showed their commitment, he added.

Senator Chaudhary Aitezaz Ahsan has also condemned the government’s decision of cutting KPK off from Punjab and said that by doing so, Nawaz Sharif is causing worst possible harm to the country. Preventing a Chief Minister of a province from entering to another province and Federal Capital is an extremely shameful act. He also said that today’s incident would remain in people’s memories for long.

As per latest updates, PTI workers and supporters coming from KPK have removed all the hurdles and containers from Haroonabad Bridge, finally made their way to proceed ahead and their next stop would be Burhan Interchange. They are likely to come face-to-face with Punjab Police and FC once again.

Earlier today in morning, Islamabad High Court permitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to hold only protest at Parade Ground near Faizabad and then to direct its party workers back homes. Hearing petitions filed against the PTI sit-in, the IHC Judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui asked Chairman PTI Imran Khan to declare that his sit-in protest will be at specific place, won’t be converted into lockdown and public peace and routine activities will remain normal.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui also ordered police to not arrest PTI leadership and remove all the barricades from KPK-Punjab link roads as well. He also ordered police to provide security to Imran Khan upon appearing before court.

Inspite of court orders, earlier today at noon, Islamabad Police yet arrested senior leaders of PTI, MNA Dr. Arif Alvi, Imran Ismael and Umar Cheema when they tried to enter Imran Khan’s residence in Bani Gala. A couple of hours later, Interior Minister Ch. Nisar ordered the police to release them. After some time, female police personnel also reached the spot and detained PTI’s female workers as well.

Apart from that, Police has been rounding up PTI activists ahead of 2nd Nov Islamabad Lockdown. Punjab Police has arrested hundreds of senior PTI workers across Punjab under 16 MPO (Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960). Section-144 is also imposed in province by Punjab Government banning the public demonstrations and rallies across the province. Section-144 of CrPC to remain enforced in the province till 8th Nov.

Islamabad Police has also started to seal Red Zone and Pakistan Secretariat from containers to stop the masses from entering. All the major roads connecting to Islamabad from different parts of the country have been blocked as well to stop PTI workers from reaching Federal Capital for Islamabad-Lockdown plan. Heavy contingents of police have also been deployed outside Imran Khan’s residence in Bani Gala as well.
