Massive Shift, PTI’s Lockdown Protest Converts into Thanksgiving Rally

Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has changed his plans and announced that 2nd Nov. will now be marked as “Thanksgiving Day” instead of proceeding for planned protest and sit-in in Federal Capital on 2nd Nov to shutdown Islamabad.

The sudden decision has been announced after when Supreme Court of Pakistan began hearing Panama Leaks’ case and offered to form a commission to investigate and probe Panama revelations of Nawaz Sharif’s family’s offshore companies and bank accounts. Supreme Court has also asked the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members to submit an answer within two days.

While addressing a press conference outside his residence in Bani Gala, Imran Khan declared the decision of Supreme Court as “victory” and thanked his workers, supporters and colleagues for being with him for last 20 years. He also said that he is extremely grateful to Chief Minister KPK and his caravan’s people for their extreme dedication and motivation while facing brutality of Punjab Police.

He said that he is happy that the Supreme Court has decided to probe Nawaz Sharif, specifically when all the other respective institutions like NAB failed to support them. For the first time it will be going to happen that a supreme authority would be held accountable and investigated, Khan added.

Imran Khan directed his workers to go home and have some rest for now so that they can refresh themselves for tomorrow’s thanksgiving celebration at Parade Ground, which is far away from Islamabad’s Red Zone, main government and commercial districts. He also invited people belonging from different walks of life to join thanksgiving rally.

Federal Minister Khuaja Saad Rafique has welcomed PTI’s decision of cancelling Islamabad Lockdown plan and said that they should have faith in apex court. He tweeted;

Today, two of the PTI workers also lost their lives and several others got severely injured when CM KPK Pervez Khattak’s convoy was bearing the brutal tear gas shelling by Punjab Police after the dawn. PTI Leadership has also asked Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of these killings and the arrest of its workers and senior leaders as well by Islamabad and Punjab Police.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting in which all senior PMLN leaders were there. In a meeting, it has been decided to constitute a commission in order to probe the Panama Papers Revelations.

The consultative meeting was held at a crucial time when the Supreme Court had begun the Panama Leaks case and when Imran Khan was all set to shut down Islamabad demanding PM’s accountability and resignation. It is to be mentioned that Nawaz Sharif has been under immense pressure from opposition, particularly PTI, since the breaking of Panama Leaks over the offshore companies and bank accounts on his children’s name.
