Panama-Gate Case: Supreme Court directs PM’s Children to submit replies this Monday

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Salman Aslam Butt has submitted Nawaz Sharif’s reply today in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, stating that Nawaz Sharif does not own any offshore company or flat. The reply also stated that PM Nawaz Sharif’s name was not even mentioned in Panama Papers and Nawaz Sharif submits his assets’ detail in Election Commission and tax returns to Federal Board of Revenue.

On the other end, PM’s children, the main characters of the case, could not submit their responses, upon which the Supreme Court of Pakistan got annoyed when Sharif family’s lawyer said that the replies from Maryam, Hassan and Hussain are yet to be received.

The court expressed its displeasure and denied the request of government’s lawyer to give PM’s children the time for a week to submit their replies. A five-member larger bench of the apex court led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali conducted the hearing of the case. During hearing, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa gave remarks that the court would accept all the allegations against Prime Minister’s children, if the replies from them are not submitted.

He asked Sharif family’s lawyer that can he give in written that Maryam Nawaz is not under guardianship of the Prime Minister. The court adjourned the session till Monday 7th Nov. morning at 9:00 AM and has given a last chance to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s children, Maryam Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz to submit their responses in upcoming hearing.

A five-member larger Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali hearing the Panama-gate petitions decided that after reviewing all responses, a single-member commission would be constituted to probe the Panama Papers revelations. The commission would be headed by an apex court judge and would hold powers equivalent to the apex court.

Earlier today, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf submitted its ToRs in the Supreme Court and raised the major concern of Sharif family’s Mayfair Flats. ToRs by PTI asked that how did Maryam Nawaz become sole proprietor of Mayfair Apartments as the flats were owned by Nescol Ltd. and Nelson Enterprises companies. The court should find out that when were these companies created.

When was Mayfair flat No. 17 bought in 1993, at what cost and how funds were transferred from Pakistan, ToRs by PTI asked. Questions in ToRs also added that all of four flats were bought between 1993 and 1996. In that case, Prime Minister has lied in the National Assembly about buying flats for $17 Million after selling Azizia Mill according to which the PM is neither truthful nor trustworthy.

Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad also submitted his ToRs in Supreme Court and said that the details of Prime Minister’s assets, details of tax return, foreign investment and source of income should be investigated. ToRs by Sheikh Rasheed also asked that how did PM Nawaz Sharif transfer his assets abroad.

Talking to media outside the court after the hearing, Chairman PTI Imran Khan said that the nation is watching as seven months have passed and yet PM is asking for more time from court for no reason for his children’s replies’ submission, when the Panama Case is being heard.

Imran Khan said that Nawaz Sharif has challenged the Supreme Court’s powers through Attorney General. He asked that why should the Attorney General protect the interests of a corrupt leader and ruler. He quoted that the Supreme Court has finally taken up this case and people will know soon whether we were spreading chaos or not.

Outside Supreme Court after hearing, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that PM has finally submitted his response in court and SC will give out his decision soon. He added that they will accept SC’s decision whereas, some people want to spread chaos in the country and he is glad that SC had acted against them.

Outside the court, a displeased incident took place when Spokesperson PTI Naeem-ul-Haq and Secretary General PAT Khurrum Nawaz Gandapur indulged in an exchange of cold words. When Khurrum Nawaz Gandapur tried to address the media then Naeem-ul-Haq stopped him and said that Imran Khan is coming and he will address first, upon which Khurrum Nawaz lost his cool and used abusive words, as per Naeem-ul-Haq’s statement.

To this, Sheikh Rasheed intervened and made them realize that everything is being caught live on TV Camera, as both of them were high on each other during battle of words. Later then PAT’s Gandapur was removed from the rostrum. Talking to media, Khurrum Gandapur told the media that Naeem-ul-Haq had pushed him and said move aside, their king is coming, referring to Chairman PTI Imran Khan.
