Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has marked the historic launch of trade activity via China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Project while inaugurating the shipment of trade goods from Gwadar Port to international market.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was accompanied by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Governor Baluchistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Baluchistan Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reforms Ahsan Iqbal and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif along with the Chinese Delegation as well.
Addressing the CPEC launching ceremony held at Gwadar Port, PM Nawaz Sharif said that the initiation of trade under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has marked beginning of new era. He termed the historic moment of the country as “dawn of a new era”.
PM quoted that CPEC is for entire country that will pave new ways for progressing our economy. CPEC will open up a whole new world of opportunities and possibilities not just for Pakistan but for Central Asian States and rest of Asia as well. PM also promised that Gwadar Port will be transformed into one of the world’s prominent economic hubs and trade activity zones.
Nawaz Sharif told that CPEC will link Baluchistan along with the entire country to the rest of Asia. He said that newly constructed roads in Baluchistan under FWO to facilitate CPEC have paved new opportunities for the people of region. Nawaz Sharif also praised COAS General Raheel Sharif for his personal dedication to CPEC and Army’s contribution towards making CPEC safe and secure.
On this occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong said that the day is very significant for CPEC and for Pak-China relations. It is for the first time that the Gwadar Port is exporting containers to the overseas destinations and a convoy successfully passed through the west of Pakistan from North to South, he added. He said that the trade convoy is an example of spirit of mutual cooperation, joint construction and mutual benefit and a winning moment for both the countries.
Trade convoys consisting of more than 150 containers started their journey from Kashgar to Pakistan through CPEC’s western route in two segments. The second convoy reached Gwadar yesterday.
CPEC is being provided with tight security measures to ensure the smooth processing of trade activities. Earlier, contingents of Special Security Division of Pakistan Army provided security to the trade convoy that reached Gwadar Port yesterday. For the shipment of Chinese goods to Middle East and African countries, Chinese vessels are ready at the Gwadar Port.
