Pakistan to take on Black Caps in 1st Test today at Christchurch

Just few days after an earthquake of 7.8-magnitude rattled the city and devastated the areas of South Island, Pakistan will be taking on New Zealand today at Christchurch in first of the two-match test series. Pakistan hasn’t lost a Test Series since 2014 and the captain Misbah-ul-Haq will be looking for victory in this test series as well.

Both the captains are charged up and ready to contest each other. Pakistan’s skipper Misbah-ul-Haq is looking to cash an opportunity to make full use of Kiwis’s shattered confidence after suffering a series white wash in India.

On the other end, Pakistan are on a high after crushing West Indies last month but yet New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson believes that his side is confident and home conditions surely will be much more beneficial to them.

The Christchurch Test will also be the 50th Test match for Misbah-ul-Haq as a captain. He will become first Pakistani to reach the milestone of captaining the national team in 50 Test matches, with already being the most successful Test captain for Pakistan with 24 wins in 49 tests, 10 more than Imran Khan.

During the series, Misbah-ul-Haq will have his eyes on reaching another milestone of getting 5,000 runs in Test career. He needs 169 runs more to become the 7th Pakistani player to complete five thousand runs in Test Cricket.

Younis Khan will also have an opportunity to become only the second Pakistani player to bat in 200 Test innings. He needs to bat in three more innings in the upcoming series to join Inzamam-ul-Haq on top of the list of Pakistani players with 200 Test Innings.

One of the greatest Test batsmen of world, Younis Khan is also near to touch the figure of 10,000 Test runs. His current aggregate test score is 9663 runs and he needs to score 337 more runs to join the 10,000 test runs’ club. He will be the first Pakistani to achieve this feat.

Pakistan also has not lost to New Zealand in Test Series in last 30 years. Kiwis last time won a test series against Pakistan at their home ground back in 1985.

Since 1985, Pakistan and New Zealand have played 12 Test Series, with Pakistan winning 7 of them and drew 5 test series. In New Zealand, both the teams have met for 29 times in tests where Pakistan has won 10 test matches and lost only 5 of them, while 14 matches ended in draw.

In general, both the teams have played 53 test matches against each other, 24 of them are won by Pakistan while Kiwis won 8 of them. 21 out 53 test matches between the two countries ended in draw. A total of 21 Test series have been played between Pakistan and New Zealand including one-off match. 13 series have been won by Pakistan whereas New Zealand could only manage to win twice.

As per records and recent performances, Pakistan is surely much hot favourite than New Zealand but current Kiwi squad has the ability to crush its opponents in home conditions. Tough contest would surely be seen between the two sides in upcoming days.
