Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has paid tribute to Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif for his services for the nation and Pakistan Army. The farewell reception for COAS General Raheel Sharif, hosted by PM Nawaz Sharif was held at the Prime Minister House that was attended by all four senior Lieutenant Generals, Director General ISI Lt. General Rizwan Akhtar and other high level military officials and federal ministers.
On the occasion, Nawaz Sharif in his address praised the services of General Raheel Sharif and his family as well for the defence of country. Nawaz Sharif said that General Raheel Sharif has surely proved himself as one of the best military leaders of this generation and the nation is proud of General Raheel Sharif.
Nawaz Sharif while paying tribute to Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif said that it is because of Raheel Sharif’s leadership’s excellence that Pakistan Army tackled not only the external threats, eradicated terrorism but also restored peace in the country. With General Raheel Sharif leading from the front, successful execution of Operation Zarb-e-Azb could actually become possible, Nawaz Sharif appreciated COAS.
If compared to 2013’s scenarios, the current security, law and order situation in the country is much better and Pakistan is safer now, Nawaz Sharif added. PM also said that General Raheel Sharif has become successful in establishing writ of the state and reclaimed every inch of Pakistan’s territory. PM said that he has always relied on strategic advices of General Raheel for the past three years and vowed to keep on discussing relevant matters with him in future as well.
On this occasion, outgoing Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif thanked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his kind words. Army Chief said that he is thankful to Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for extending full support and generous words for him.
Later then, COAS and PM Nawaz Sharif had one to one meeting with each other where they discussed the appointment of new Army Chief and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. The Ministry of Defence has handed over the summary for the appointment of the next Army Chief to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the successor will be announced during a change of commander ceremony on 29th Nov.
COAS visits District Baarha of Khyber Agency
Earlier today, General Raheel Sharif visited District Baarha of Khyber Agency and addressed members of the tribal Jirga. COAS said that India had staged a ‘drama’ of surgical strikes. If India conducts a surgical strike then we will give them such a response that lessons of Pakistan Army will be taught in Indian academics, General Raheel Sharif said.
The Army Chief also stated that he would transfer his powers and command of Pakistan Army to the next Chief of Army Staff on 29th Nov. Sharing his post-retirement plans, General Raheel Sharif expressed his desire to devote his life for the martyrs and declared that he will form “Shuhada Trust” after leaving his office. During the visit, General Raheel Sharif also inaugurated Shahid Afridi Sports Complex and presented Ex-Captain of Pakistan Cricket Team with a Pistol as a gift.
