Military announces transfers of 11 Lt. Generals including DG ISI, DG ISPR & DG Rangers

Pakistan Army has made important postings and transfers that include the transfer of DG ISI, DG ISPR and DG Rangers as well. The development is seen two weeks after General Qamar Javed Bajwa took over as Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

As per statement by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), current Director General Rangers Lieutenant General Bilal Akbar has been appointed as Chief of General Staff (GSS). Post of Chief of General Staff requires a vast experience of dealing with internal security matters and Lt. General Bilal Akbar has been serving as DG Rangers with keen focus on the security matters of Karachi. This transfer surely indicates that new COAS wants to give priority to internal security.

Current Corps Commander Karachi Lt. General Naveed Mukhtar has been appointed as DG ISI whereas Lt. General Rizwan Akhtar presently serving as DG Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has been appointed as President of National Defence University (NDU). Current President of NDU, Lt. General Nazir Butt has been appointed as Corps Commander Peshawar (11Corps). Lt. General Hidayat-ur-Rehman, currently serving as Corps Commander Peshawar has been appointed as Inspector General (IG) Training and Evaluation at General Headquarters (GHQ).

Newly promoted Lieutenant Generals; Lt. General Humanyun Aziz and Lt. General Qazi Ikram have been appointed as Inspector General C&IT at GHQ and Chief of Logistic Staff at GHQ respectively. Newly promoted Lt. General Sher Afgun has been posted as 31 Corps Commander Bahawalpur. In the meantime, recently promoted Lt. General Muhammad Afzal will continue as DG FWO. Newly promoted Lt. Genenral Naeem Ashraf has been appointed as Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT).

Current DG ISPR, Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa has been appointed as Inspector General Arms at GHQ. He was appointed as DG ISPR in June 2012 by then Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kiani. Earlier in September 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. Prior to his posting as DG ISPR, Lt. General Asim Saleem Bajwa was posted in Dera Ismail Khan as a General Officer Commanding. Under his leadership, the army had conducted successful military operations in South Waziristan to eliminate militancy and bring peace back in the region.

The names of incoming DG ISPR & DG Rangers are yet to be announced.
