Former President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has been elected as the President of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) whereas Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has been elected as Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). The elections for office bearers of PPPP and PPP were held today at Bilawal House Karachi.
As per official statement, for PPPP, Asif Zardari was elected as President, Farhatullah Babar as Secretary General, Saleem Mandviwalla as Finance Secretary and Maula Bukhsh Chandio as Secretary Information. The elections of PPPP were held by the Election Body consisting of Farooq H. Naik convener, Taj Haider and Sardar Ali Khan.
Whereas for PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was elected as Chairman, Nayyar Bukhari as Secretary General, Haider Zaman Qureshi as Finance Secretary and Chaudhary Manzoor Ahmed as Secretary Information. The elections were held by the Election Body under its convener Fauzia Habib.
The statement further said that all the office bearers have been elected for a period of minimum 4 years. The Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians was actually created by Late Makhdoom Ameen Faheem during Pervez Musharraf’s tenure, as original PPP was not registered in Election Commission of Pakistan as per new rules and regulations. PPPP is considered as an electoral extension of the Pakistan People’s Party.
The modification in party’s structures comes following the decisions of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto to contest elections in order to become an official part of the Parliament. After the intra-party elections, party meeting was also held in which it was further discussed how to pressurize government for accepting the four demands of PPP.
