Panama-Case Proceedings: Burden of Proofs lies upon PM, says SC

The larger bench of the Supreme Court led by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa has resumed the hearing of Panama Leaks Case. During the proceedings, judges gave the remarks that Nawaz Sharif had once said that his life is an open book, but apparently it seems that few of its pages are missing. Records mentioned by PM in his speeches have not been produced yet due to which the true and false cannot be decided, Justice Ijaz remarked.

Prime Minister’s lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan presented his arguments and said that Nawaz Sharif is not at all the director or shareholder of any offshore company. He also claimed that PM Nawaz Sharif is not the beneficial owner of any company.

The bench asked Makhdoom Ali Khan about the money trail for the London Flats and asked him to prove that there were no contradictions in Prime Minister’s speech in Parliament. The counsel replied that the family’s business was transferred to Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz from Mian Sharif, thus Nawaz Sharif has nothing to do with it.

Justice Ijaz-ul-Hassan said that the PM had recognized Dubai Mills and said all records are available according to which the burden of proof lies upon Nawaz Sharif. To this, PM’ Counsel said that presenting the documents and proofs is the petitioner’s job. The Apex Court will resume the hearing of the case tomorrow.

PM has no evidence to prove himself innocent, says Naeem-ul-Haq

PTI Spokesperson Naeem-ul-Haq after the hearing claimed that the Qatari Letter is fake and PM’s lawyer is completely out of evidence. Leader PTI Fawad Chaudhary demanded the government to reveal the sources of money-transfer and said that the people of Pakistan want evidence that how PM Nawaz Sharif made properties abroad worth billions of rupees.

Fawad Chaudhary told the media that PM’s lawyer have brought three main points. First, that the Supreme Court cannot give the verdict on PM’s speech in Parliament. Secondly, PM is not answerable about his father’s or son’s business dealings. Also, he failed to provide proofs about Dubai Factory.

AML Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad also had a media talk after the hearing in which he said that the lawyer of Nawaz Sharif is yet to answer all the allegations. It is a historic case and apparently it seems that the ruling party has no answers, Sheikh Rasheed claimed.

On the other end, Siraj-ul-Haq, the Leader of Jamaat-e-Islamic (JI) responded to media after the hearing and said that the Prime Minister should set an example and appear himself before the Supreme Court to clarify all allegations against him.

PMLN believes that PTI’s petition has been completely destroyed

PMLN leader Daniyal Aziz said that all of PTI’s allegations once again were proven wrong today and PTI’s lawyer is also running away from the case. Maida Hameed said that it has been proven that PM does not own any offshore company and Imran Khan is creating hype of this case as he can see KPK slipping away from his hands. PTI Chief is also jealous of Prime Minister’s development projects, she added.
