Panama Case Proceedings: Supreme Court demands Financial Records from PM

The hearing of Panama Leaks Case resumed today under the larger bench of Supreme Court and PM’s counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan continued his arguments before the apex court. The larger bench led by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa has demanded financial transaction records of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and said that the possibility of transferring of money illegally cannot be denied.

The bench asked PM’s counsel that if the money was transferred properly through the bank accounts then why any attested document has not been submitted in the court yet. Bench told that he must has to submit the attested documents before the court along with the reply.

To this, Makhdoom Ali Khan informed the court that they do not want to hide anything from the court but everyone has a basic right to keep their bank accounts’ records safe and secret. He also claimed that it will take much time to obtain certificates from all banks as it is a complicated process.

Earlier in the arguments before a five-member larger bench, PM’s counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan challenged the hearing the Panama Leaks Case under Article-184 of the constitution and said that until or unless government institutions do not submit their own investigative reports on the issue, Supreme Court has no right to hear the case as per Article-184 of the constitution.

While supporting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Makhdoom Ali Khan also said that Maryam Nawaz is not dependent on her father and that any exchange of money between Nawaz Sharif and his children took place through banks.

The judges remarked that they want to see money trail which was transferred through banks and that the Prime Minister will have to submit attested bank records in the court. The bench observed that Hussain Nawaz presented gifts to his father PM Nawaz Sharif in 2010 whereas Jeddah Steel Mill was sold in 2005.

Justice Khosa also remarked that there are discrepancies in PM’s speech and his stance in the court. These discrepancies must be explained in the next hearing, he told to PM’s counsel.

In the meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has also accepted an application reference of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Jamat-e-Islami Chief Siraj-ul-Haq was of the view point that first of all it should be PM Nawaz Sharif and then everyone should be held accountable. He was talking to media outside the SC. The larger bench adjourned the case’s hearing until Thursday (tomorrow).

Nawaz Sharif was involved in Money Laundering, says Imran Khan

Talking to media outside the Supreme Court, Chairman PTI Imran Khan said that Nawaz Sharif was involved in money laundering. During the court proceedings today, a third mill also came under discussion, he added.

Federal Minister for Railways and PMLN Leader Khawaja Saad Rafique said that Imran Khan has got “Nawaz Sharif Phobia”. For his personal interests, he wants to destroy the country’s progressing economy, he added.

Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif said Imran Khan should rather explain funds for Shaukat Khanum Hospital which he transferred abroad instead of pointing out Nawaz Sharif. State Minister for Information Maryam Aurangzeb said that Imran Khan will soon have to apologize for his behaviour
