The five-member larger bench led by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa resumed the hearing of Panama Leaks Case where Prime Minister’s counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan completed his arguments as well. Justice Ejaz Afzal gave the remarks that under the Article-78, court can only accept verified documents.
He also asked for authentic evidence in the case and said that verdict based upon mere assumptions could not be given. If Supreme Court disqualifies Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, then along with this life too, this ugly label will also be taken into the grave of PM, Justice Ejaz Afzal added. During the hearing, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed observed that this case challenges the premiership of Nawaz Sharif.
PM’s daughter Maryam Nawaz’s counsel Advocate Shahid Hamid also presented evidence before the apex court regarding to Maryam Nawaz’s property. Justice Asif Saeed Khosa asked that, was land bought by the father on her daughter’s name? To this, Shahid Hamid submitted details of the dates when the property was purchased along with the other related documents.
PM’s counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan said that Nawaz Sharif had bought the land for Maryam Nawaz and then the property was transferred to her name after she had paid the price for that land. He further said that Maryam Nawaz’s is not dependent upon her father and is completely independent financially.
To this Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan remarked that usually fathers buy property for their children who are dependent upon them, he remarked that the term “dependent” will have to be redefined in accordance with this case. Justice Asif Khosa said offshore companies are not illegal, but tax evasion and concealing assets is surely illegal. The hearing of Panama Leaks Case will resume tomorrow.
Some people trying to ridicule the SC: Khawaja Saad
Federal Minister for Railways and PMLN Leader Khawaja Saad Rafique asked the Supreme Court to take notice of some people who are passing inappropriate remarks to the honourable judges. He was speaking to media after the hearing of the case and further added that it’s the constitutional right of judges if they give the remarks but others should have respect for them and do not need to ridicule the courts.
He was of the view that his rivals can have a lot of problems with him but no one can deny the fact that he is a committed politician. He also said that tomorrow they will let PTI to speak to media first but if PTI leaders will abuse Nawaz Sharif, they will surely counter in response.
Nawaz Sharif is the most corrupt man of country, claims Imran Khan
Imran Khan after the hearing talked to media representatives and said that Nawaz Sharif is the custodian of PMLN and therefore he has to be held accountable. He added that now Nawaz Sharif is hiding behind the immunity once he has been taken into the Supreme Court. He also told that if we call someone corrupt then it is not an abuse, but a harsh reality. PM’s counsel has failed to come up in the court with solid proofs to prove Nawaz Sharif and his children innocent.
He was of the view that when they were protesting in the streets, everybody told them to go to the parliament. When they wanted to talk about Panama Papers issue in Parliament, then the Speaker didn’t let them to talk with saying that the matter is subjudice and asked to go to the Supreme Court. He said that now PTI is in Supreme Court, PMLN leaders want them to shut up and back off.
