The general public of the state of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir observed a Kashmir Solidarity day to incite their support for the suffering and consequent struggle of the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir for their freedom of determination pledged under several UN Security Council resolutions.
Pakistanis and Kashmiris have been observing the Kashmir Day every year on Feb 5 since 1990.
This practice was initiated by Emir of Jamaat-i-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmed and it was emboldened by then Pakistani Prime Minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and then Chief Minister of Punjab Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
On this occasion rallies, seminars, demonstrations and in light of the current Indian atrocities in Kashmir, vigils and mass prayers are organized to commemorate the sacrifices of Kashmiri citizens and freedom fighters and to pray for their well-being and independence. Also events such as speech and essay competitions in educational institutes are organized across Pakistan and AJK as an expression of unfaltering solidarity with the strife of Kashmiris.
