Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that terrorist incident in Lahore was an attempt to sabotage the forthcoming PSL Final in Lahore. COAS has given this statement on his tour to Lahore where he chaired a high level meeting in Corps Headquarters Lahore on security. Commander Lahore Corps and Intelligence Agencies Lieutenant General Sadiq Ali briefed COAS on the last night’s suicide blast on Mall Road.
As per an official statement released by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Army Chief said that such incidents cannot lower their moral and spirit to fight against terrorism, and their efforts will continue to counter terrorism. General Qamar Bajwa vowed that terrorists of all hue and colour, their facilitators and planners will be hunted across the country and held accountable before the nation.

COAS also praised Intelligence Agencies for their efforts in tracing culprits of the blast which have ensured the key arrests last night, including a couple of Afghans as well, ISPR said. General Bajwa also directed to expedite efforts to unearth the complete network. Talking about the blast’s links to sabotaging the forthcoming PSL Final in Lahore, the COAS said that Pakistan Army will extend full support to everyone concerned for holding the event as scheduled.
Later, General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited the bereaved family of DIG Ahmed Mobin who was also among the martyrs of Lahore’s blast and offered Fateha over there. While talking to DIG Ahmad Mobin’s mother, the Army Chief said that the sacrifice of her brave son and those by the nation will not go in vain at any cost.
General Bajwa also visited the injured ones at Services Hospital. He also expressed his grief and extended condolences to other bereaved families of Lahore blast victims. He said that they have to defeat this inhuman brutal mindset and as a nation they will.
Rangers Operation should be launched in Punjab as well, says Imran Khan
Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan also visited the family of Martyred DIG Ahmad Mobin and expressed grief and deep sorrow over the loss of other precious lives as well. While talking to media, Imran Khan said that it has become the need of time to launch an extensive Rangers Operation in Punjab.
Imran Khan further stated that if an operation in Karachi can be processed then why it can’t be in Lahore and Punjab, PTI Chief added. Chairman PTI said that there could have been no terror incidents if the National Action Plan on Counter Terrorism was implemented. He asked that every political party had endorsed the NAP, then why it has not been implemented yet.
He was of the view that terrorism will not end until police gets de-politicized, adding that police needs to be impartial in order to improve performance. The PTI Chief also said that the approved Police Act in the Khyber Pakhtunkhua Assembly will also be presented in Sindh and Punjab Assemblies as well.
