Rising Terrorism; Suicide Bomber now targets Judges’ Van in Peshawar

A driver of a van carrying Civil Judges has been killed and 18 others got injured after a suicide bomber targeted the van and exploded himself. The incident took place near Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar when the suicide bomber rammed his motorcycle into the government vehicle causing deadly explosion.

After the explosion, Police and Law Enforcement Agencies immediately cordoned off the area and shifted the injured ones to nearby hospitals. As per sources, the Civil Judges Asif Jadoon, Aman Haider, Rabia Warsi and Tehreema Sabahat were travelling in the van who got injured. SSP Operation Peshawar Sajjad Khan confirmed that it was a suicide attack, adding that the attacker’s body parts have also been covered.

Peshawar’s Police Chief CCPO Tahir Khan also confirmed about the death toll and gave the brief that the incident occurred around 3:30 PM when suicide bomber detonated his explosives near the Civil Judges’ Van. He also told that around 15 kilograms of high-grade explosives were used in the attack.

That was the third terrorist attack reported in the country today. Earlier in Mohmand Agency, atleast five people including three levies personnel were martyred, while many others were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself at the main gate of Mohmand Agency’s Headquarters, Ghallanai. DPO Sohail Khalid also said that following this attack, yet another suicide bomber exploded himself in Mosal Kor, Mohmand Agency.

Civil-Military Leadership on Tables

Terrorist Attacks in Peshawar and Mohmand Agency have come two days after a deadly bombing rocked the Punjab provincial capital Lahore in which at least 18 people lost their lives and dozens other got wounded. In wake of current situation, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a high level meeting at the PM House that included the country’s top civil-military leadership.

The high level meeting focused on security situation of the after the recent terrorist attacks in the country. It was decided in the meeting that terrorists won’t ever be allowed to revive themselves again in the country again. It was also observed that the recent wave of terror is in reaction to the government’s crackdown on terrorism.

The meeting was attended by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, National Security Adviser General (Retd.) Nasir Khan Janjua and other officials.
