Atleast 8 people are reported to have been dead while 21 injured after an explosion occurred in Block-Y of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in Lahore. The remote controlled blast took place at an under construction building when the labourers were working inside. The explosion was so strong that the windowpanes of nearby standing cars and buildings shattered. Rescue 1122 immediately rushed to the blast site and transferred the injured ones to General Hospital where few of them are said to be in critical condition.
Police & Law Enforcement Agencies have also cordoned off the area to investigate the incident. Army Personnel have also arrived at the scene and assumed the security of the crime spot. CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has ordered an investigation into the explosion and summoned a report from IG Punjab. On the other end, Provisional Law Minister Rana Sanaullah earlier said that the cause of the blast is yet to be determined whereas Punjab Government stated that it was a Generator Blast.
Following a blast in DHA, there were reports that another explosion had also taken place in Gulberg area of the city which were immediately dismissed by Rana Sanaullah who categorically stated that no such explosion had taken place in Gulberg.
The incident has occurred right after a day when Pakistan Army launched a new counter-terror operation named as “Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad” across the country to execute criminals and counter the terrorism. This operation aims to eliminate all kinds of terrorism threats within the country and also to ensure perfect means of security at the borders. In this operation, Pakistan Army along with Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy will actively participate in full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism from its roots.
On Wednesday, Pakistan Army reaffirmed to foil enemy’s plans to sabotage the Final of Pakistan Super League (PSL) which is to be held in Lahore on 05th March and also ensured to provide full security to the event. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also announced and confirmed earlier this week that the PSL Final will definitely be held in Lahore after concerning with the Franchises of PSL. Now recent incident has once again heated the debate on security issues regarding to PSL Final.
