Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reached Islamabad for ECO Summit

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has reached Islamabad to attend the 13th Session of the Economic Cooperation Organization. Upon his arrival, Hassan Rouhani was presented with Guard of Honour and 21-Gun Salute. On the occasion, the National Anthem of both the nations were played and recited.

13th Session of Economic Cooperation Organization is scheduled to begin on Wednesday in Islamabad with leaders of other nations also attending the session. ECO comprises of countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Turkey. Turkish President Recep Tayyab Erdogan has also reached the Federal Capital earlier in evening.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sent a message prior to the ECO Session and said that common cultural heritage is their asset and ECO’s purpose is to protect and safeguard the interests of the fellow member countries. PM further said that ECO will help in forming a new economic block, adding that it will also elaborate the goals of Vision 2025. He said that the attendance of ECO leaders bears significance to the country.

Earlier PM hoped that the outcome of 13th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in the form of Islamabad Declaration and ECO Vision 2025 would further enhance regional integration, connectivity and would advance economic prosperity in the region. He expressed these views while talking to Secretary General of ECO, Halil Ibrahim Akca, who called on him here.

The PM Nawaz Sharif also appreciated the ECO Secretary General and his team for their preparatory work for the ECO Summit in Islamabad. The secretary general was in Pakistan for the ongoing13th ECO Summit. He highlighted the enormous potential of the ECO in the region and also referred to the commonality of interests, common cultural heritage and geographical proximity of the ECO countries.

The ECO Secretary General also emphasized Pakistan’s commitments to achieve the ECO objectives, as envisioned in the ECO Charter. He thanked the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for hosting the ECO Summit and for the excellent arrangements and appreciated PM’s vision for regional connectivity and greater regional integration.

Obstacles need to be removed in Trade among Member Countries, says Sartaj Aziz

Adviser to PM Nawaz Sharif Sartaj Aziz has said that the obstacles must be removed in trade among member countries of Economic Cooperation Organization. He was speaking at the 13th Summit of ECO where Foreign Ministers of different countries were there where he said that they are determined to work on areas of mutual interests.

On the occasion, Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Jawad Zareef said that his country is determined to cooperate to achieve the goals of ECO Summit. While addressing the participants, ECO Secretary General Halil Ibrahim said the member-countries altogether produce crops of over $1 trillion. Projects are under way as well for food security in the region. He also added that the organization was working with United Nations to boost tourism in the region.

The main session of ECO Summit will be held on 01st March in which Presidents of five countries, Prime Ministers of three countries, a Vice Prime Minister and Ambassador for Afghanistan in Pakistan will participate.
