Eid at the Edhi centre, Lahore will be bright and cheerful for many as a result of the enthusiastic efforts of medical and dental students of Lahore, Pakistan.
Keeping the mantra of Edhi in mind, students of the International Federation of Medical Students Association (IFMSA), Pakistan at Allama Iqbal Medical College(AIMC) initiated an Eid drive to collect funds for the Edhi centre. This project was soon joined by other colleges – FJMU, KEMU, CMH and UCMD.
Dedicated to Abdul Sattar Edhi, this initiative came at a great time. Since the demise of the amazing Edhi Saab, donations to the Edhi organization have reduced. It has direct impact on the services and care provided at the Edhi centres, which house multitude of people going through hard times. Therefore, this innovative idea of Iqbalians to make eid memorable for the poor and needy, while simultaneously reminding the world to carry on Edhi’s legacy is a commendable one.
The students of different colleges and universities across Lahore joined forces to accomplish their noble mission. They volunteered their time and their creative skills, they designed banners and made collection boxes, they involved families, friends and fellow humanitarians in the drive for a wonderful “Eid for everyone” – and they did good!
In addition to collecting funds, these students also took the time to visit Edhi centres and homes to give out gifts to the children and adults alike. It is heart-warming to know the youth of Pakistan knows how to honour its heroes and make Pakistan what it should be – a beautiful united nation.
I feel proud as an Iqbalian. I feel proud as a Pakistani.
Dr. Farah Akram. May Allah guide us to all that is good and right. Ameen.
