Meera, or Meera jee as she is affectionately known, is soon due to make her comeback to the big screen with filmmaker Saqib Malik’s directorial debut.
The rumour mill was once abuzz that Saqib Malik was making a biopic of her, one of the most colourful actresses to come out of Lollywood in recent years. He categorically denied the hearsay, but, judging from what we hear about the story line, this was one rumour that had a grain of truth in it.
Titled Baaji, this film will be a social drama against the background of the recent changes in the Pakistani film industry. It is speculated, however, that the film will be based loosely on Meera’s real-life rise and fall in Lollywood. Only time will tell if that rumour proves to be true.
The actress shared a group photograph of the film’s cast on her Instagram account, and it turns out that the film also stars Osman Khalid Butt, Ali Kazmi, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Nayyar Ejaz, Amna Ilyas and Nisho.
Meera has revealed that she will be playing the titular character in the film. “The shoot is going on right now and I play the title character who will be referred to as Baaji,” she said.
Osman Khalid Butt too could not resist sharing his excitement on Twitter:
I interrupt this hiatus to give news I've waited the better part of a year to announce:
I'm starring in Saqib Malik's debut film (been a long time coming!) #Baaji opposite Amna Ilyas, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Ali Kazmi, and –

This will be the first time that the pair will be sharing screen space together.
In an interview with gossip magazine Cutacut, Osman could not stop gushing about how he was “Meera’s biggest fan”. He revealed, “I’ve seen and loved her in films such as Inteha and her debut film, Jeevan. Unfortunately, today’s generation only knows the social media side of her and isn’t familiar with her work.”
He added, “Let me just say that Meera is the most committed actor that I have ever come across…The best part is that she’s extremely professional on set and isn’t a diva at all, which is not what I was expecting.”
Baaji is slated for release in mid-2019.
