Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex and wife of Prince Harry, is expecting the couple’s first child, and will be giving birth in spring 2019.
The news was revealed on the official Twitter account of Kensington Palace.

The announcement came as Meghan and Prince Harry arrived in Sydney to commence their official tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have always been very open about their desire to start a family. The Duchess had said in 2016 that being a mother was on her “bucket list”. Prince Harry had said in their engagement interview: “You know, I think one step at a time, and hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future.”
The couple got married in May 2018, and the baby will be seventh in the line of succession to the throne. There is little chance, however, that he or she will become a prince or princess unless Queen Elizabeth decides to step in.
Prince Harry himself is sixth in the line of succession, following his father, his brother, and his brother’s three children. This means that the upcoming baby will be titled lord or lady, just like the children of any other duke or duchess.
The Queen and members of the Royal Family were informed pf the pregnancy at Princess Eugenie’s wedding on Friday. The long coat that Meghan wore on the day, coupled with the fact that she was seen covering up her tummy with two large folders she was carrying on her arrival in Sydney, had sparked speculation that she may be expecting.
The Royal Family, including the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and the Duchess of Cornwall, are all reportedly “delighted” after hearing the news.
Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, is also “very happy about this lovely news, and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild.”
