Cristiano Ronaldo has overtaken Selena Gomez as the most-followed person on Instagram.
The footballer has 144.6 million followers on the platform, whereas the singer only has 144.4 million.
It is not surprising considering that she last updated her Instagram in September.
In her last post so far, dated 24 September, Gomez had announced that she would be taking a break from social media.
In a very philosophical post, she had written, “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.”
Her post, and subsequent disappearance prompted speculations about her health, which were later corroborated by reports that the singer was undergoing mental health treatment.
Her Instagram account is a mix of travel picture and promotional shots, some of which can gain up to more than 37 million likes each.
In contrast, Ronaldo’s account is mostly filled with updates on his football career and workout regime.
The footballer has recently been in the news for his alleged rape of 33-year-old aspiring model Kathryn Mayorga, who has accused the footballer of sexually harassing her in 2009.
