6 Pakistani films to look out for in 2019

Entertainment Desk

Last year proved to be a good year for the Pakistan film industry. Many Pakistani movies managed to perform well at the box office and some of them were highly critically acclaimed. Movies like ‘Cake’ and ‘Motorcycle Girl’ were very well received and showed a positive shift in the Pakistani film industry.

2019 is looking like it will be the best year for the Pakistan film industry as some big budget blockbusters are set to release this year.

Here are some upcoming Pakistani movies that we’re very excited to see this year:

The Legend Of Maula Jatt:

Billal Lashari’s second directorial venture with a star-studded cast and a heavy budget, The Legend of Maula Jatt, is quite possibly the most anticipated film of the year. With stellar graphics, cinematography, and editing, the Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malick starrer looks promising to say the least.

Gumm:

Gumm is an upcoming Pakistani crime thriller starring veteran actor Shamoon Abbasi, Sami Khan, and Shameen Khan. The film is directed by two New York Film Academy graduates, Ammar Lasani and Kanza Zia (to learn more about them watch their exclusive interview with The Weekly Pakistan). The movie will release countrywide on January 11th 2019.

Baaji:

Veteran star Meera is making a comeback with the film Baaji, directed by Saqib Malik. And what’s more, the cast includes Osman Khalid Butt, Amna Ilyas, Ali Kazmi, Mohsin Abbas Haider and others in titular roles. Malik confirmed the film isn’t a biopic on Meera but it surely revolves around her.

Laal Kabootar:

We have never seen anything like this! Mansha Pasha and Ahmed Ali Akbar are looking fierce in the teaser for Kamal Khan’s Laal Kabootar and leave us wanting more! Based in Karachi, the film promises to depict the metropolis in all its raw glory. Watch the teaser here.

Paray Hut Love:

Asim Raza is making a big comeback with Sheheryar Munawar and Maya Ali in Paray Hut Love. The Ho Mann Jahaan director announced Mahira Khan to be the leading lady of the upcoming film. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the Raees starlet was replaced by Maya Ali. But rumor has it, the famed Humsafar duo Fawad and Mahira, will appear in cameos in the film.

Superstar:

Mahira will apparently be working on another film with Janaan star Bilal Ashraf. While not much has been revealed about the film yet, reports suggest that it will indeed be released this year and we’re excited to see the chemistry of the duo on screen.
