Amir Khan to fight for title on April 20th

Famous British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan is set to fight for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title on April 20th 2019. Khan will be fighting the current welterweight champion, the undefeated Terrence Crawford.

Crawford has been a dominant champion in his weight class and has been in great form as of late, knocking out all three of his last opponents. This fight is going tobe one of the toughest fights of Amir Khan’s career.

Khan made his comeback in April 2018 to fight the Canadian Phil Lo Greco. He had taken two years off after the devastating knockout at the hands of Saul Canelo Alvarez. Khan made quick work of Lo Greco, finishing him in the first 39 seconds of the first round.

Khan fought again in 2018, won the bout and silenced his doubters who said his time had passed.  He beat Colombian-Canadian boxer Samuel Vargas to a unanimous decision victory. Despite early adversity, Khan finished strong and made sure the judges scored the fight in his favor.

During his two-year layoff, Khan was involved in multiple controversies. The constant drama and public fights with his wife did not do his image any good. At one point, he even took to Twitter and decided to pick a bone with the world heavyweightchampion, Anthony Joshua.

After settling the problems with his wife, Amir Khan tried his hand at reality TV. He was one of the guests on the British reality show “I’m a celebrity” which didn’t help improve his image either.

It will be interesting to see if Khan can overcome the odds and become a champion again. The British Pakistani boxer has a lot of exciting potential fights if he manages to beat Terrence Crawford on the 20th of April. A potential fight with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao might be on the cards and a fight against his British rival Kell Brook might also be something that would interest both Khan and his fan base.
