Supreme Court dismisses petition against Aasia Bibi’s acquittal

The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition seeking a review of the top court’s acquittal of Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman who spent eight years on death row in a blasphemy case.

The CJP said that t he petitioner was not able to point out any mistake in the SC verdict acquitting Aasia Bibi. This will end Aasia Bibi’s final legal hurdle as the verdict cannot be challenged any further.

Aasia Bibi was released from Multan’s women prison on November 7 last year and flown to Islamabad onboard a special aircraft. She was later taken to an undisclosed location and her whereabouts have been kept secret since then. Keeping in mind the sensitivity of the case, authorities have not disclosed her location.
