Ufone is rolling out 4G/LTE services in Pakistan with the test phase already underway in select locations.
Ufone is the only carrier in Pakistan which had previously not launched 4G services with Zong, Jazz and Telenor all providing 4G.
According to a story on ProPakistani, Ufone’s 4G services have already start in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. This has been confirmed by several people on social media who noticed Ufone’s 4G/LTE on their mobile phones.
Ufone has confirmed that the 4G services will be launched in phases all across Pakistan.
It is likely that following Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the major cities including Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, and Karachi will soon get Ufone 4G/LTE.
Ufone customers can dial *4# to check if their SIMs are 4G compatible or not and if Ufone 4G/LTE is available in their area.
Ufone had been the only telecom company in Pakistan that had not upgraded to 4G previously, maintaining that 3G services if provided correctly are more than adequate.
Wit their entry into 4G, however, it seems the company is set to become a player in the rapidly growing 4G market in Pakistan providing competition to Zong, Jazz and Telenor.
Company sources have confirmed that Ufone has acquired the necessary approvals for 4G operation in Pakistan. The company will be launching 4G services within their currently available spectrum.
Ufone has said that this will not affect speeds for their current 2G and 3G users even though the spectrum is set to be further split to allow 4G usage.
It’s not yet certain how much Ufone has invested into the 4G/LTE market, although the company has said they are committed to bringing quality service to Pakistani consumers. It is however evident that Ufone has invested a significant amount which they feel is a good investment considering the growing market in Pakistan.
Ufone further said that they are confident that consumers will show faith in their services, pointing to figures from October 2018 when they had the highest number of new data consumers.
