Karachi Kings sells out for new anthem

The Karachi Kings music video for their new song, De Dhana Dhan, was released on social media on Wednesday.

The video starts off with Shahzad Roy and Wasim Akram, coming into the shot on two traditional heavy bikes, before the camera shifts to actor and Jeeto Pakistan host Fahad Mustafa and Faysal Qureshi, who is sporting the new Karachi Kings kit.

The video itself seems to shift back and forth aimlessly between each scene and seems to have no real story behind it or, even for that matter, subject that the song is trying very hard to address.

During the video, before it reaches its much awaited conclusion, several apparent product placements can be seen. In one such scene, two people can be seen exchanging a Dairy Milk chocolate bar, the shot of which encapsulates the whole screen. Another ridiculous example, of this obvious product placement happens when one player taps the shoulder of another player, who seems to be a bit down in the dumps, and offers him a box of Tuc biscuits, after which they proceed to walk-off, with the latter player now smiling and cheered up.

Product placements of Nurpur, Scene On (crisps), Ruh-Afza, Imtiaz super market, Inverex Solar Energy, Meezan Har Dam Tea, and Sprite are also shown throughout the video, with more emphasis being placed on the team’s sponsors than anything else.

Some notable appearances are made by ARY anchors and media personal, such as Waseem Badami and Iqrar Ul Hasan.

At the end of the video, a short video clip for each sponsor is played with a voiceover, in case it wasn’t apparent that the team had been sponsored by the aforementioned products.

The whole video seems like a ruse to sell goods, rather than being a tool for the promotion of the team and its players.
