The Academy Awards took place early Monday morning (according to Pakistan Standard Time) and the movie which came out on top was Green Book, bagging the best film. This was an unexpected win, as many others were vying for movies like Roma, Vice and BlacKkKlansman.

In a surprising turn of events, Rocky won the best picture category at the Oscars, beating movies such as Taxi Driver and All the Presidents Men. That is not to say that Rocky was anything other than a great movie but the other movies were more critically acclaimed.
This best picture winner makes its way into every list. The movies director, Paul Haggis, himself said in an interview in 2015, “Was it the best film? I don’t think so.” Crash beat out fan favorite Broke Back Mountain.
3. Shakespeare in Love
Saving Private Ryan is considered by many, to be the greatest war movie of all-time and show cased some amazing performances by actors Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, as well as amazing direction by Steven Spielberg, who won the best picture Oscar. However, shockingly, the best picture category was given to Shakespeare in Love.
4. Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is not only considered to include one of the best acting performances of all-time but is also considered to be one of the greatest movies of all-time. However, with comparison to The Shawshank Redemption, which sits on the top spot of many lists as the greatest motion picture of all-time, alongside The Godfather, one has to wonder whether Forrest Gump actually deserved the award over the former.

Citizen Kane, in terms of a cinematic masterpiece sits alongside, The Godfather and The Shawshank Redemption, however, in 1942 it was deprived of its win, when the Oscar was given to How Green was my Valley. Many attributed the loss of Citizen Kane to its unpopularity at the time.
