Pakistan’s first female MMA fighter, Anita “The Arm Collector” Karim will fight at the ONE Warrior Series (OWS) in Singapore on Thursday February 28. She will be joined by Pakistan’s most decorated MMA fighter, Faizan ‘The Grenade’ Khan.
The Islamabad-based fighters trained at Fight Fortress, under the mentorship of Ehtisham Karim and are currently at fight camp in Thailand.
Faizan’s professional MMA record is 3-1-2 (Win-Loss-Draw), while Anita’s professional record is 0-1-0 (Win-Loss-Draw). Anita will face Gita Suharsano, who will be fighting for the first time professionally, while Faizan is set to fight Saharat Kongsawat.
Fighting at OWS is a major step for MMA fighters in Pakistan and it highlights some of the talent that exists within the small MMA community.
ONE Warrior Series
The ONE Warrior Series is an off-shoot series of ONE Championship, the biggest MMA promotion in Asia, and is run by Rich Franklin. The series goal is to “help identify and cultivate the legends of tomorrow.”
Franklin himself is a three-time mixed martial
Regarding the ONE Warrior Series Franklin said, “ONE Championship has tested several methods for recruiting talent, but nothing that became a permanent solution. Jonathan Fong (Director of OWS) and I were sitting with our chairman discussing previous tryouts I had conducted. Jonathan suggested we should create our own league to test new talent. Our Chairman [and CEO], Chatri Sityodtong, then conceptualized the OWS travel and search format.
You can watch the two Pakistani fighters compete by downloading the ONE Championship app. The fight card starts at 1pm on the 28th of February.
