The latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Captain Marvel, will not be released in Pakistan following a dispute between the distributor of the film and Disney Entertainment.
Fans who have been eagerly waiting for the film will be left disappointed by the news that superhero action film featuring Brie Larson as the title character will not play in Pakistan. Eveready Pictures has allegedly not paid the Disney regional office dues for previous films resulting in Disney cancelling the rights for the film in Pakistan.
Captain Marvel was released internationally on March 8 but has yet to be released in Pakistan.
The recent tensions between Pakistan and India may have been a factor in the news as Pakistani cinemas and film distributors have been struggling financially as Bollywood films have been banned.
According to sources, Eveready Pictures has not received payments for two Bollywood movies, Simmba and Zero. Movie theatres including Bahria Town Cinemas and Super Cinemas have been delaying payments to various distributors.
Entertainment Pakistan also reported that cinema exhibitors are saying that due to the ban on Indian movies they have seen a lot of their revenue decrease which have slowed the payments to the distributors.
Disney has, reportedly, opened the licensing of the movie for other distributors in Pakistan, however, the fee for the movie is quite substantial.
This news, though, could not have been more ill-timed as Pakistani fans eagerly await the arrival of the biggest Marvel movie to date; Avengers: Endgame. If the situation and the issue persist then Endgame will also be in jeopardy of not being released in Pakistan.
