Sheikh Rasheed who serves as the current Minister of Railways, has always been a personality that has captivated the public. Many relate to his humor, making viral videos of a few of his interviews and the Railway Minister has, in the recent past, become a subject to funny memes which appeal to many people. However, Sheikh Rasheed often makes controversial statements that baffle both opposition politicians and his followers.
His recent remark regarding Bilawal Bhutto Zardari caused a stir as many including senior PPP leadership and the chairman of the party himself considered it a threat to his life.
Here are the five times Sheikh Rasheed made controversial statements.
1. Battle with Bilawal
The Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party and the Minister of Railways have been at each other’s throats for a while now. Both criticize one another and are usually exchanging their feedback on Twitter. However, on the 16th of March, Sheikh Rasheed tweeted something very controversial.
The tweet, which has become the subject of debate between many people reads:
Bilawal and the PPP leadership thought this to be a threat to his life especially due to the quote “siasat main mara jaye ga” which can either be interpreted as “He will be killed in politics” or “his political career will die”.
2. The time when Fawad Chaudhary said he would step down
In December of 2018, Sheikh Rasheed claimed that the PM was thinking of a portfolio “reshuffle”, while unaware that his mic was on. During this discussion, with a member of the press, he also said that the PM had called him four times with regards to the matter. The comments were later aired by many private media channels.
When the news broke, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary tweeted:
3. Armeena Khan fires back
In June of last year, Sheikh Rasheed was once again embroiled in controversy when he heavily criticized and abused people of the entertainment industry on live television. As a result of his comments, actress and social activist Armeena Khan shot back at Sheikh Rasheed saying, in an exclusive interview with The Tribune, that,
“As a creative professional, I am left wondering if the politicians historically tasked with developing and supporting our creative industries, harbored such derogatory sentiments about these very industries, then is it any wonder our nation has had to endure a cultural depression for so long. This is the very hypocrisy that destroyed our film industry. As a result we have lost out economically and artistically. It is unforgiveable.”
4. The time when Sheikh Rasheed got mixed up with Veena Malik
A couple of years ago Sheikh Rasheed also made comments on a very prolific actress. Sheikh Rasheed said, “Veena Malik is a bloody liar. Does she deserve tea? I hate her.”
5. And last but not least, Sheikh Rasheed and Imran Khan
The only thing we can use here is to remind our readers of the simpler times of 2005, when PM Imran Khan and Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed were at each other’s throats.
